What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy helps your brain process distressing memories, fears, and sensations so they feel less overwhelming.

It can support you whether you’re preparing for childbirth or healing from what you’ve already been through.

It’s not about reliving every detail. It’s about helping your nervous system feel safer and more supported.

Your story matters.

Your feelings are valid.

Compassionate support is available.

How does EMDR therapy work?

EMDR guides your brain in processing what feels heavy or frightening, using simple techniques that help you stay grounded.

  • Identify distressing memories or fears — We explore what feels overwhelming.

  • Build coping resources — You build coping strategies.

  • Use bilateral stimulation — Eye movements or tapping help the brain to process distress.

  • Reprocess the memory — The experience becomes less emotionally charged.

  • Strengthen adaptive beliefs — “I can’t handle this” shifts toward “I can handle this.”

Each step is collaborative and we will process your experience at your own pace.

What can I expect during an EMDR therapy session?

  • A calm and collaborative pace.
  • No need to relive every detail.
  • You can pause at any time.
  • Grounding skills come first.

EMDR therapy for help with anxiety and fear surrounding childbirth

Through EMDR therapy, it may be possible to:

  • Calm your nervous system.
  • Build healthy coping skills.
  • Help to visualize an empowered approach for upcoming labor and delivery.
  • Release negative beliefs and shift to positive beliefs (such as "I can't handle this" to "I can handle this").

The goal is to reduce the emotional and physiological distress connected to your anxiety and fear surrounding childbirth while helping you feel more grounded and supported.

EMDR therapy for help with birth trauma

Through EMDR therapy, it may be possible to:

  • Calm your nervous system — reduce panic responses so recalling your child’s birth feels less overwhelming.

  • Shift negative beliefs — move from “I failed” or “I’m unsafe” to “My body did the best it could” or “I’m safe now”.

  • Reduce avoidance — ease triggers related to medical environments, future pregnancies, or postpartum anxiety.

  • Process sensory fragments — address distressing images, sensations, or moments from your delivery.

The goal is to reduce the emotional and physiological distress connected to your birth experience while helping you feel more grounded and supported.

You don’t have to face these reactions and feelings alone.

Your story matters.
